| About Astoria |
| Welcome to Astoria and Warrenton Oregon! At the mouth of the Columbia , Astoria is the site of the first permanent U.S. settlement west of the Rockies. If its historic charm and Victorian ambiance look familiar, you have most likely seen glimpses of them in "Free Willy" or "Kindergarten Cop" The Astoria Warrenton Chamber of Commerce has maps of the filming locations and many other points of interest. The 125 ft Astoria Column with its beautifully restored murals depicting the settlement of the Northwest and a panoramic view of the Columbia River across to Washington is a must see while visiting Astoria. The extensive walkway at the Historic Astoria Waterfront features an ever- changing scene of sea lions, birds, freighters, tugboats and fishing vessels. You can even watch bar pilots climb aboard ocean going ships to steer them over the treacherous Columbia Bar. At the base of the massive Astoria-Megler Bridge that spans the river, the West Mooring Basin is the starting paint for eco-cruises to eagle sanctuaries in the Columbia River Estuary. Across Young's Bay, Warrenton is a small fishing port that offers big time recreation and shopping. Nearby Fort Stevens State Park boasts the states largest campground and the shipwrecked Peter Iredale on the beach. As you head south, visit fort Clatsop National Memorial, an exact replica of the Lewis and Clark winter outpost of 1805-06.
